Ivan G. Olsen, 34, Fort Campbell, Ky.



Sgt. Ivan Gene Olsen, 34, passed away at Fort Campbell, Ky., Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005. He was a member of the 101st Army Airborne Division, a crew leader of maintenance on Chinook helicopters.

He was born May 4, 1971, to Debbie Van Komen and Floyd Ivan Olsen at Lewiston. He attended school at Lewiston and Clarkston and graduated from Lewis and Clark High in Spokane.

He enlisted in the Army April 11, 2000, went to basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and served two years at Hanau in Germany. He was then stationed at Fort Polk, La., and was deployed to Kuwait Feb. 14, 2003. He then transferred to Fort Campbell in 2004 and attended helicopter school at Fort Eustace, Va. He arrived in Afghanistan Feb. 6, 2005.

Gene was the recipient of the Army Achievement medal, Weapons Qualification Sharpshooter Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, GWTSM, Army Commendation Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.

He married Janett Kohler on the Island of Man, Denmark, on July 30, 2002.

He is survived by his wife; father and stepmother Betty; stepsister Brenda Johnston; stepbrothers Jay and Jeff Haubner; grandparents Floyd and Edna Olsen and Betty Clemens; aunt Terrie and Perry Olin; several aunts and uncles; and sons Jonah Olsen, Tristan Olsen and Zachary Olsen.

Gene was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dewaine Van Komen; his mother; and uncle Darren Van Komen.

He honorably and faithfully served the Army and intended to make it a career. He will be missed by his loving family and many friends.

Viewing will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society.

it's hard to say goodbye when you didn have the most wonderful relationship with the person...but he was a really good mana good friend and didn deserve to go soo young...geno ...i beleive you can hear our prayers and we really did love you...as i know you did us...you will be cincerely missed...
